Missed the Bank or not near an Ulster Bank branch?

We've introduced a number of services available at many An Post outlets across Ireland giving you more choice as to how you choose to Bank with Us!

As an Ulster Bank customer, you can:

  • Lodge cash (Personal and Non-personal customers) using a barcoded personalised credit slip or your Debit Card.
  • Lodge cheques* (Personal and Non-personal customers) using a barcoded personalised credit slip**.
  • Pay your Ulster Bank Credit Card (Personal customers only) with cash using either the barcoded bill payment slip attached to your Ulster Bank Credit Card bill or your Ulster Bank Credit Card.
  • Pay your Ulster Bank Credit Card (Personal customers only) with any Irish Debit Card using either the barcoded bill payment slip attached to your Ulster Bank Credit Card bill or your Ulster Bank Credit Card.

*Cheque lodgement option is available at designated An Post outlets only.

** All customers that use credit books for their banking services will need to order a new barcoded credit book to use An Post Services (credit books should be ordered in the usual manner- see here)

Using an An Post Outlet


What you need to know

  • The An Post services are available from 20 April 2015 on a phased basis, with full roll-out being completed by 29 May 2015
  • The level of service may differ at each An Post outlet as the Cheque lodgement option is available at designated An Post outlets only and is subject to different cut-off times depending on the outlet
  • Transactions carried out at An Post will take longer to be credited to your account, than if they were made in an Ulster Bank branch
  • Cash lodged through An Post (Personal and Non-personal customers) will be credited to your Ulster Bank account within 2 hours if lodged in An Post before 3:30pm. Cash lodgements received after this time will be credited by 10am on the next business day
  • Personal customers can lodge up to €4,999 per cash transaction (lodgements or credit card bill payments)
  • Non-personal customers can lodge up to €49,999 per cash transaction (pre-notification to An Post may be required for cash amounts over €4,999) see here
  • Cheques lodged through An Post (Personal and Non-personal customers) will be credited to your Ulster Bank account on the next business day. Cheques lodged on a Saturday will be credited on Tuesday (or Wednesday if Monday is a Bank Holiday)
  • Payments to Credit Cards (available for Personal customers only) will be credited to your account on the next business day. Credit Card payments made on a Saturday will be credited on Tuesday (or Wednesday if Monday is a Bank Holiday)
  • New barcoded credit books will replace existing Ulster Bank credit books and can be used in both Ulster Bank branches and An Post outlets
  • Cash and cheques must be lodged as separate transactions in An Post, and not together on the same barcoded personalised credit slip
  • Personal customers are not charged for using An Post services
  • For Non-personal customers using An Post, the separation of cash and cheque lodgements means that a manual transaction charge will be generated for each credit slip used.   • Customers cannot withdraw funds or check their balance at an An Post outlet
  • An Post staff have no visibility of customer details and therefore cannot answer queries on accounts
  • A maximum of €200 in coin may be lodged per transaction at An Post’s discretion - see here
  • Foreign/non-Euro cash cannot be accepted by An Post for lodging to Ulster Bank accounts
  • Foreign/non-Euro cheques cannot be accepted by An Post for lodging to Ulster Bank accounts
  • Ulster Bank "Fast Lodgement" envelopes cannot be accepted by An Post

There are no limits to the number or value of cheques that can be lodged, subject to them fitting in the pouch.

Multiple pouches may be required depending on the number of cheques being lodged and each pouch requires a separate barcoded personalised credit slip

Each credit slip will be charged separately for Non-personal customers (standard Business Current Account transaction fees apply)
Subject to An Post outlet cut off times, cheques lodged through An Post will be added to an Ulster Bank account typically one business day after paying-in. Cheque(s) will follow the normal cheque clearing cycles after they have been received.

A Bank Holiday will add an additional processing day.
Personal customers are able to make a Credit Card Payment using a Credit Card Barcoded Bill Payment Slip and Cash Cash to be lodged

Will transactions carried out at An Post be the same as if they were done in-branch?

No - transactions carried out at An Post will take longer to be credited to customers’ accounts. Please see the An Post Service Information table above for more information

What are the An Post Outlet cut-off times?

  • Cash lodgements will be credited to your Ulster Bank account within two hours if lodged in An Post before 3:30pm. Lodgements received after this time will be credited to your Ulster Bank account by 10am on the next business day
  • Cheque lodgements are subject to An Post outlet cut off times. These differ for each An Post outlet. Cheques lodged through an An Post outlet will be credited to your Ulster Bank account on the next business day.
  • Credit Card bill payments will be credited to your Ulster Bank Credit Card on the next business day
  • Cheque lodgements and Credit Card payments made on a Saturday will be credited on Tuesday (or Wednesday if Monday is a Bank Holiday)

What is the maximum coin lodgement for coin pay-in transactions at An Post?

A maximum of €200 in coin may be lodged per transaction at the discretion of the An Post outlet subject to the outlet having a coin requirement and the coin being properly bagged.

Will all An Post outlets offer this service?

  • Personal & Non-personal customers will be able to lodge cash in any An Post outlet. The Cheque lodgement service for Personal and Non-personal customers will be available at designated An Post outlets only
  • Personal customers will be able to pay their Credit Card in any An Post outlet
  • Larger Small & Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and Corporate customers should be mindful of pre-notifying lodgements of cash greater than €4,999 via their local Relationship Manager or local An Post outlet for each transaction, if this size of lodgement is not a regular occurrence

Do customers need to register to use An Post?

No, registration is not required. However, pre-advising via their local Relationship Manager or local An Post outlet is recommended for larger SMEs and Corporate customers if cash transactions over €4,999 will be a regular occurrence, and a designated An Post outlet will be assigned to the customer

What do customers need to use An Post?

Cash Lodgements

  • Available to Personal and Non-personal customers
  • Foreign/non-Euro cash cannot be accepted by An Post for lodging to Ulster Bank accounts
  • Ulster Bank are migrating from standard credit books to barcoded credit books so all customers will have the facility to lodge in An Post. However, should you need to use the service before your current credit book is used up you will need to order a new barcoded credit book (credit books should be ordered in the usual manner). The barcoded credit books are now available for order. The new barcoded books will replace the existing credit books and can be used in both Ulster Bank branches and An Post outlets
  • The new barcoded personalised credit slips only show your Sort Code and Account Number on the bottom line of the slip
  • Ulster Bank Debit Cards (if available for your account) can be used instead of barcoded credit books to make lodgements
  • You will receive a receipt for each lodgement from the An Post counter staff, which confirms acceptance of the lodgement and the amount paid in

Cheque Lodgements

  • Available to Personal and Non-personal customers
  • Cheque lodgements will be available at designated An Post outlets only.
  • Foreign/non-Euro cheques cannot be accepted by An Post for lodging to Ulster Bank accounts
  • Ulster Bank are migrating from standard credit books to barcoded credit books so all customers will have the facility to lodge in An Post. Multiple pouches may be required depending on the number of cheques being lodged. Each pouch requires a separate barcoded personalised credit slip and each credit slip will be charged as a separate transaction for Non-personal customers only
  • The barcode on the credit slip must be clearly visible through the clear side of the pouch
  • You will receive a receipt for each pouch from the An Post counter staff, which confirms acceptance of the pouch (it will not confirm the amount of the lodgement nor the number of cheques lodged)

Credit Card Payments

  • Available to Personal customers only
  • Credit Card payments require a credit card or credit card barcoded bill payment slip to be used in An Post. Only Ulster Bank Credit Card bill payment slips bearing a barcode can be used at An Post
  • You will receive a receipt for each lodgement from the An Post counter staff, which confirms acceptance of the lodgement and the amount paid in

How do I order a cheque book or credit book?

Cheque & Credit books can be ordered via Anytime Internet Banking, Anytime Telephone Banking (1850 424 365) or through your local Branch or Relationship Manager

To order via Anytime Internet Banking select 'Payments and transfers' from the main menu. Then under the 'Credit/cheque books' section click on either 'Order cheque book' or 'Order credit book' as appropriate and follow the on screen instructions.

Please note: If the account you are trying to order a cheque or credit book for is not listed, then your cheque/credit book preferences have not been recorded for that account and you will need to contact Anytime Telephone Banking to place your order.
