Switch to Ulster Bank - Opening your account in 5 steps
Switching your current account to Ulster Bank could be a smart move - and we'll make it easy for you.
1. You can open your current account by
- Dropping into any Ulster Bank branch.
- Completing an online application at www.ulsterbank.ie
- Contacting us by telephone - 1800 303 004 Mon to Fri 9am - 5pm (excl. bank holidays). Calls may be recorded.
To open your account you will need the following:
- Proof of identity, e.g. Full current driver's licence or current valid signed full passport.
- Proof of address, e.g. a recent utility bill.
- Last 3 months' bank statements and wage slips.
2. Open your account with Ulster Bank:
When opening your account you will receive the following:
- Copy of the relevant terms and conditions (including services provided on your new account).
- Copy of our leaflet Guide to Personal Accounts - Fees and Interest.
3. Organise regular payments into your account
We'll help you to:
- Order bank cards and chequebooks.
- Set up internet and telephone banking and any relevant bill payment arrangement as required.
- Inform your employer and other credit sources of your new account details.
- Ensure there are sufficient funds in both your new and old accounts to give you access to your money and to cover any outgoings, fees or charges due.
If you are opting to close your old bank account any cheques drawn on it will not be forwarded to your new bank - they will be returned unpaid to the bank that presented them. Guaranteed cheques may be honoured by the old bank in accordance with the rules of the Cheque Guarantee Scheme. The old bank may seek to be reimbursed by the new bank for these cheques.
4. Sign Account Transfer Form
Ulster Bank will help you complete this, once completed it will allow us to:
- Set up existing Standing Orders on your new account and pay out Direct Debits on your new account
- If requested to close your old bank account we will transfer any credit balance from your old account to your new account.
5. If you opt to close your old bank account, once you receive your Ulster Bank cards, return your old bank cards to your old bank.
Also, by returning any unused cheques from your old account, you'll receive a refund of government stamp duty.
How long should this take?
Your account will be up and running within 10 working days*.
