Switch to Ulster Bank - Switching your account in 5 steps
Switching your current account to Ulster Bank could be a smart move - and we'll make it easy for you.
Once you have signed all the documentation* in the switcher pack, send all these into us and we will look after the rest.
1. Once you have signed the Account Transfer Form, we will send this to your old bank.
- The date of transfer you select on the Account Transfer Form is the first date when we will initiate contact with your old bank
2. Your old bank will then:
- Detail us with all Standing Orders and Direct Debits, as well as sending a copy to you
- Inform your existing Direct Debit originators of your new account details
- If you have chosen to close your old bank account your old bank will;
- Close your old bank account
- Transfer a credit balance to your new bank account
- Send you an account closing statement
- Refund stamp duty on returned unused cheques
- Debit any charges and/or interest due
3. Standing Orders.
- We will set up Standing Orders on your new account once we receive the existing list from your old bank
4. Direct Debits.
- Your Direct Debit originators** will change your account details and present the next Direct Debit on your new Ulster Bank account.
5. Check your list of standing orders and direct debits from your old bank.
- If you would like to make any changes to your standing orders or direct debits on your new account you must contact us immediately
How long should this take?
No longer than 7 working days***.
* Your switching pack contains the following documentation
Account Transfer Form - This must be signed in order to proceed with the account switch, as this form facilitates the physical transfer of your bank account. Please send the top two copies of the form to us and we will send on to your old bank.
Letter 1 - If we receive this completed letter from you, we will send this to your old bank. The letter requests details of payments and beneficiaries which you may have set-up through phone or internet banking with your old bank.
Letter 2 - If we receive this completed letter from you, we will send this letter to your employer, requesting them to credit your salary to your new Ulster Bank account.
Letter 3 - If we receive this completed letter from you, we will send this letter to the credit sources you have outlined. We will request them to credit your payments to your new Ulster Bank Account.
** Please note: the switching process is reliant on Direct Debit Originators updating their records in a timely manner to ensure a smooth switching experience.
*** We will always aim to meet these timescales. However, occasionally there may be exceptional circumstances in which they cannot be met.
