You can choose from Ulster Bank Premier Car Insurance or 'Third Party Fire and Theft'.

Ulster Bank Premier Car Insurance offers differing levels of standard cover, along with some optional covers and optional extras.

Premier Car Insurance

This package offers you insurance with features including:

  • New Car Replacement If your car is less than a year old (and you are the original and only registered owner) when it is stolen (and not recovered) or when it is damaged (in a single incident resulting in a repair or reinstatement cost of more than 50% of the value of the car when new), our policy will offer to replace the car with a new car of the same make and model, if such a car is available in Ireland.
  • Fire brigade charges Up to € 1,000 per claim to cover the cost of fire brigade charges which you have to pay as a result of the fire brigade being called to control or put out a fire in your car, or remove you or your passengers from the car. We will pay this benefit only if there is a valid claim on your policy for the event.
  • Replacement lock cover For replacing door locks, boot locks, the ignition steering lock, the lock transmitter and the central-locking interface, if your car keys or the lock transmitter are lost or stolen.
  • Personal belongings cover Up to € 150 for any one event, for loss or damage to rugs, clothing and personal belongings (not including stamps, money, documents, securities or trade goods) that happens in the car by fire, theft or accidental damage.
  • Radios, stereos, and car phones Cover for loss or damage to radio, hi-fi, car-phone or CB equipment up to € 650 per claim, or 5% of the current market value of the car, whichever is less.
  • Breakdown Rescue You'll get the full support of Aviva's emergency breakdown assistance to get you going as soon as possible - and your car is covered if it breaks down in the 32 counties of Ireland, and in England, Scotland or Wales. Breakdown Rescue also includes, among other covers, 'driveway' breakdown assistance at your home address.
  • Windscreen Cover If you use Mr Windscreen or Autoglass, no limit applies in the event of a claim. If you use any other repairer there is a limit of € 225 for any single event.
  • Policy Excess The policy excess is the amount we will ask you to contribute towards the cost of a claim for accidental damage under the Ulster Bank Premier Car Insurance Policy. The standard Ulster Bank Premier Car Insurance accidental damage excess is € 300.

Premier Comprehensive cover offers you the following optional covers and optional extras, for an additional premium charge.


JourneyWise accident cover (optional extra)

JourneyWise (also referred to as Personal Accident benefit) provides cover in the event of accidental bodily injury to any person named on your policy schedule (who you have chosen to cover for the benefit). We will pay € 26,000 in the event of death, loss of sight or loss of arm or leg and we will pay € 130 for each day spent as an inpatient in hospital, for up to 20 days. You are covered while getting into or out of a private car, or any train, bus, taxi, aircraft, boat, ship or hovercraft (as a fare-paying passenger).


Protected No-Claims Discount (optional cover)

This option allows you to have up to two claims in a three year period, without losing your No-Claims Discount. (We will not take into account claims for windscreen breakage or fire or theft for the purposes of this optional cover).


Step-back No-Claims Discount (optional cover)

This option allows you make a single claim on your policy during any period of insurance and keep part of your No-Claims Discount.

We will step it back as follows:

5 years no claims - 50% discount reduces to 20%
4 years no claims - 40% discount reduces to 10%
3 years no claims or less - 30% discount reduces to nil


Protected No-Claims Discount with Step-back (optional cover)

This option allows you to have up to two claims in a three year period, without losing your No-Claims Discount. (We will not take into account claims for windscreen breakage or fire or theft for the purposes of this optional cover). For subsequent claims, No-Claims Discount step-back applies. What this means is that in the event of a further single claim in that period, you may keep part of your No-Claims Discount.

We will step it back as follows:

5 years no claims - 50% discount reduces to 20%
4 years no claims - 40% discount reduces to 10%
3 years no claims or less - 30% discount reduces to nil


Open Driving (optional cover)

With this option you can allow any driver aged 25 to 70 years to drive your car once they have a full EU licence.


Policy Excess - Reduced Excess (optional cover)

If you wish you can choose to reduce your policy excess by agreeing to an increased premium.

Reduced excess - we will reduce your Ulster Bank Premier Car Insurance accidental damage excess from €300 to €125* in return for a 5% increase on your premium.

*The option to reduce the policy excess to €125 is only available if you hold a full driving licence.

  • 5% discount if you have a savings product or your mortgage with us, OR

    10% discount if you have a savings product and your mortgage with us, OR

    *10% if you are a ufirst†, ufirstgold†, or ufirst Private member

    *A monthly membership fee of €10 applies on ufirst current accounts, €14 on ufirstgold accounts. The fee for ufirst Private Current Account is €14 per month. Customers will also pay a €36 per month fee for the Private Relationship service provided to customers of Ulster Bank Private Banking charged via their ufirst Private Current Account.

  • You hold a relevant 'advanced driver' qualification (20% discount) with the IAM (UK), RoSPA or Diamond Advanced Motorists;
  • You have no penalty points (33% discount) or if you have up to two penalty points (17% discount) and are a holder of a driving licence issued in the Republic of Ireland.
  • You qualify for and successfully complete our one hour Ignition driving assessment. You can get a discount on your private motor policy of between 20% and 40% upon successful completion of the Ignition assessment. We also offer an extra 10% discount to successful Ignition participants who choose not to drive between the hours of 11pm and 6am.
  • We offer a 20% loyalty discount at renewal if you have not had any claim on your motor policy in the last year. This discount will increase to 25% at your 2nd renewal and increase to 28% at your third and subsequent renewal
  • You choose a higher than normal policy excess of €600 (5% discount) on your Ulster Bank Premier Car Insurance policy.

Discounts are applied consecutively to your individual premium and are subject to a minimum premium of €280.
